Client Case Study : Use Data & Systems to Work Smarter Not Harder
Let me tell you a little story about one of my beloved clients, Susie (name changed for marketing purposes). Susie had a goal this quarter to increase her email opt-ins and grow her email list. Like most of my clients, Susie's schedule is pretty packed with client work, so she needs to be selective with the additional projects she takes on and optimize to work smarter, not harder.
Setting Up Metrics Tracking Systems
One of the first things I do when onboarding clients is to set up a metrics tracking system if they don't have one already. During our monthly planning calls, we review the metrics I track, such as website traffic and opt-ins, and dive deeper into where each is coming from. Through this process, we were able to identify that more than half of Susie's traffic was coming from Google. Additionally, we identified the top 5 articles on her site that were responsible for more than 80% of her website traffic.
Strategic Call-to-Actions
Armed with this information, we devised a plan to capture the emails of traffic already coming to Susie's site. We strategically placed topic-specific call-to-actions within these high-traffic articles, enticing readers to join her email list. We also added call-to-actions on her website in strategic places such as the website banner, blog header, and blog sidebars.
Intentional Planning
In addition to optimizing the website, we decided to leverage the power of social media. We developed a weekly Instagram Story cadence that focused on sharing a call-to-action each week to join Susie's newsletter list. By engaging her Instagram followers and directing them to her opt-in page, we were able to tap into a new audience and further boost her email list growth.
Work Smarter Not Harder
The results were nothing short of remarkable. Susie experienced substantial email list growth with minimal additional effort. What's even more impressive is that Susie was out of the office for vacation the better part of the month yet achieved the highest email list growth month Year to Date. Results like these make the efficiency nerd in me so oh so happy.
Susie's success story is a testament to the power of intentional systems and data-driven strategy. By strategically implementing systems and leveraging the right channels, she was able to significantly increase her email subscribers by working smarter, not harder.
